(120 minutes) The Ashtanga “Primary Series” is a traditional fixed sequence of 41 postures that are linked together with transitional movements called “vinyasas”. This like many other yoga classes is an open eyes moving meditation with three focal points: “bandas,” holding core muscle contractions; “drishti,” maintaining a specific focus point; and “ujjiye,” audible breathing. The Ashtanga Primary Series focuses on forward bends, twists and hip openers, it also employs a lot of upper body strength. The primary series is also known as “Yoga Chikitsa” meaning “yoga therapy” because of the cleaning and toning effects it has on the body.
